Where are you from originally?
I grew up in St. Augustine, Florida. My family is originally from New York.
What is your favorite podcast?
Up and Vanished because I love mystery and crime solving. I also love listening to the Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
Tell us an interesting detail about you that many might not know?
I am a published author. I love to write and read. I’ve owned a business in South Korea.
Why are you in homebuilding?
Everything that I have done professionally I have done because there was an element of helping people’s lives improve. When I worked in the mattress industry I got behind the science of sleep and health and how it could help improve a customer’s life. When I worked in higher education, I got behind the power of what it means to be an educated person. A home is a refuge, it is a place to recharge and raise a family (if you so choose). A home is a place to establish roots, create legacy and stability. I enjoy interacting with clients and buyers because they are open to the next chapter in their lives and I enjoy assisting in conducting them to their destination which is ultimately a lovely, comfortable, home.
What experience would you repeat?
I would teach overseas again. It was a great experience and taught me more about the world than I could have ever imagined. I would also experience my wedding day again, it is arguably the best day that I have lived thus far.
What are 3 adjectives that describe you best?
Compassionate, Pragmatic, Committed
What is one of your favorite things to do in your city?
I love trying new places to eat in Austin. There are so many different types of food that it is difficult to choose a favorite. I also love listening to live music.
What is your favorite Model, Floorplan or Feature?
One of the features I love about my company is that the buyer has a hand in their entire process and stage in the building of their home. They are constantly informed and are contacted on a weekly basis on the homes’ progress.
Hemingway Floor Plan
What have you heard or listened to lately that has inspired you?
I recently finished the 5 levels of leadership by John C. Maxwell on audiobook. It teaches you a lot about how to work with others to accomplish goals. I also listened to “I am Malala” probably one of the best stories I have ever read/listened to.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Every person you meet is your superior, not in the sense that they are better than you, but that they can teach you something you didn’t already know, even if it is what not to do.
What lights you up in life?
Family is the most important thing in my life. Seeing people reach goals against all odds is also very special. I also enjoy helping people get out of their own way.
Do you have someone in your life that has been an exceptional mentor? Who? Why?
I have many mentors in my life, my dad, my old college professor, and my spouse. My dad always taught me to fight every day for what I want. He says that there is a difference in having an interest and a commitment to winning. My professor George Candler taught me that not everything is cut and dry and it takes courage to be pragmatic and not take immediate offense. My spouse is my rock, she has taught me patience and the importance of being able to weather storms.
