Elgin Independent School District has three elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools. From softball, cheer, swimming, to cross country and more, Elgin is known for its robust athletics program and great academic standards.
With annual events like the fire department cook off, Western Days Festival, the Christmas parade, and more, Elgin residents can enjoy time with their neighbors close to home. The historic downtown area is also becoming a hotspot in its own right, with exclusive eateries, shops, boutiques, and even historic walking tours. There’s also no lack of amenities, like grocery stores, chain stores, or places to shop. H-E-B, Walmart, and even a few local markets are all in the area. Parents and families are also happy to know that there are a number of doctors, dentists, and health care options in Elgin proper.
For the commuting employee, the best part about Elgin is its easy access to the I-35 corridor. Just a quick drive west on Hwy 290, residents can get anywhere off of I-35 in no time. About 45 minutes into downtown Austin during rush hour, Elgin also provides a faster commute than most other surrounding areas.
