Q&A HOU - Atia Willis-King image
  • How did you get into real estate?

I worked with a lot of Real Estate Agents at my assigned apartments. I was inspired to become a Real Estate Agent myself and help clients find the right home.

  • Where are you from originally?

    I’m a Houston Native.

  • What was your first job in the industry?

I was a leasing manager for luxury apartments in Houston and River Oaks.

  • What lights you up in life?

My children’s hugs and my husband’s kind words.

  • Where do you predominately sell real estate?

I love working all around the Houston areas. But most of my business in South Houston Areas.

  • In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?

Stay consistent and don’t be a “Secret Agent”…Tell everyone you are a Realtor.

  • How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?

I’m very genuine about each person that trusts me to be their Realtor. I want to make sure they are making the best decision for themselves.

  • What do you love about the industry?

Working with different people and families. The process of selling and buying real estate isn’t easy. Each client has a story and I am honored to be part of that story that makes the process easier.

  • What experience would you repeat?

Joining the first Real Estate office and team. It didn’t turn out how I expected has a new agent in the industry but the misguidance taught me to be my own leader.

  • What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?

    HAR platinum agent app

  • Which Home Builders have you had a great experience working with in the last 12 months?

Beazer Homes, Taylor Morrison, and Highland Homes.

  • What is your favorite Model, Floorplan, or Feature?

I love Highlands new model in Sienna. The laundry room is like no other, but it can also be a bonus gym room. Such a cool option.

  • What are 3 adjectives that describe you best?

    Personable, Cheerful, and Honest

  • What is one of your favorite things to do in your city?

Explore new restaurants! I’m a foodie.

  • What have you heard or listened to lately that has inspired you?

I heard Steve Harvey tell his story about receiving a call from Apollo Show to be on TV as a standup comedian (GIG OF A LIFETIME) but he had no money to get to the city so he could go. That same day he received a call to do a local show that would pay him just enough money to get a flight to the Apollo. It inspired me to always believe. There is a way. Don’t give up on your dream.

  • Tell us an interesting detail about you that many might not know?

I was the first black woman to be crowned MissAustinUSA in 2009 and competed for MissTexasUSA and won Miss Congeniality. Just like the movie Miss Congeniality… Sandra Bullocks character, I am a sweet goofball always here to help a woman in need.

  • What is the best advice you have ever been given?

    To always be yourself.

  • Do you have someone in your life that has been an exceptional mentor? Who? Why?

E.L Craine has been such an amazing mentor for me in the industry. Also, Shannon Allan, the founder of Growth has been my mentor through a Mom organization. I couldn’t thank them enough for putting us together.

  • What Charity do you support? Please tell us more about your involvement?

I support March of Dimes. Both my two children were born preemie at 2 lbs. They spent months in a NICU before I could bring them home. I watch parents like me struggle to be there every day with them and worried if they will survive being born so early. March of Dimes provides resources and financial support for the babies and families. Once a year parents get together to March and spread awareness.
