  • How did you get into homebuilding?

    Prior to working as a new home consultant, I was working at a fitness club. I found the fitness industry to be very rewarding because I had the opportunity to help people make big commitments to changing their lives for the better. I always made an effort to meet our members, find out what their goals were and build meaningful relationships. While working there, I met Jon Newton, who, at the time, was the director of sales for a local new home builder. We developed a friendship and he asked me if I might be interested in working as a new home consultant.
    At first I was hesitant because I didn’t know much about new home building and the job I had was rewarding and had career growth potential. However, what I was told was that new home consulting can be just as rewarding because you have a unique role in building people’s homes where they will live and make lasting memories. In many cases, this is the biggest purchase someone will make in their lifetime and buying a new home is often a life-changing experience.
    After reflecting and speaking with my wife, I accepted the challenge and my career has gone places I never imagined possible. The best part is that everything I had been told was true! In fact, I’ve had the unique role of helping shape a community from the beginning and seeing many people’s lives grow and change because of that. I’m really excited to have the same opportunity today in Artavia.
  • What are 3 adjectives that describe you best?

    Friendly, Punctual, Professional.
  • What do you love about homebuilding?

    One of the things I love most about new home construction is seeing a community grow. I can remember being in a new development where we had been building for a few months and seeing the school bus come by for the first time. As the kids were let off the bus I was thinking, “This isn’t just a place where I sell homes. This really is a community full of families.” At that moment I felt like although the development was really important to me and my business, it was much more important to those who have bought and invested their lives into it. The vast majority of those people will be there much longer than I was. I’ve visited that development (and others) since and when I’ve driven through there it feels so much more important to me now since I’ve sold my last home there. What it is today is bigger than me, but I’m really proud that I had a part in it.
  • What is the best advice you have ever been given?

    The best advice I was ever given was to be fully conscious of what your customer is telling you, but don’t solve their problem too quickly. The more you listen, the better you can serve them. Many times as salespeople it can be easy to recognize where a conversation might be going and stop listening because we think we know how to serve them at that point. However, our intuition isn’t always correct! If you solve too quickly, it may lead your clients are the wrong path and delay finding the right home. Worse yet, they may not stick around and go a different direction altogether. The best way to think about it is that you are not trying to sell someone a home, but instead help them buy to a home.
  • What is one thing you want people to know about your community?

    Artavia is a master-planned community in Conroe, Texas. It’s located off of 1314 and 242, giving homeowners quick access to I45, 69 and the Grand Parkway. The community theme is “live colorfully” and the developer is designing the community with vibrant amenities. From meditation and play areas to community gathering spaces, miles of trails winding through wooded reserves and a boardwalk on the 5-acre lake sporting kayaks.
