Life in Friendswood

Are your homebuyers looking for excellent housing in a safe, family-friendly community in Greater Houston? Half an hour southeast of Houston lies Friendswood, a suburb that has been rated one of America’s Best Places to Live. The Friendswood community is teeming with beautiful parks, scenic trails, local restaurants, superior schooling, and more.

Friendswood was founded by a colony of English Quakers from Kansas in 1895. When Frank Jacob Brown and Thomas Hadley Lewis discovered the beautiful prairieland framed by dense woods along creeks, they were compelled to acquire it from the owner, J.C. League. They did so, and named it Friendswood (Friends being a synonymous term for Quaker.) The population has grown from less than 1,000 in the 1950s to an estimated 39,000 today.

Some of the best parks include Frankie Carter Randolph Park, a shaded space with playgrounds and nature trails. After the family has worked up an appetite outdoors, they can check out one of the many renowned restaurants in Friendswood. Casual Tex-Mex restaurant Barcena’s Mexican Restaurant will please everyone in the family. For something a little different, King’s Biergarten & Restaurant serves German and Austrian comfort food in a beer hall with live music on the weekends. For a hip and trendy night on the town, Whiskey Cake is a farm-to-table dining spot with a focus on whiskey, just off I-45.

The Friendswood website mentions their superior school system under their Quality of Life page, and rightly so. The Friendswood Independent School District earned a 95 out of 100 score for 2017-18. Their students were given As across the board in achievement, progress, and performance. Parents looking for a smaller school district will be happy with the 7 schools in Friendswood, with just over 6,000 enrolled students.

Homebuyers searching for a smaller, community-driven city with quality education and well-cared for spaces will love Friendswood. With new residences constantly in development in the area, our clients are sure to find their dream home in Friendswood.
