The City of Manvel

Manvel is about 20 miles south of Houston along TX-288. It’s a tiny city with an estimated 7,100 residents since 2014. Are your homebuyers searching for a small, quiet community? They may just find their new home in Manvel.

Manvel was originally named Pomona, but its name was changed after a similarly named town in West Texas was discovered. The city was then renamed after a man who became president of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. After the first group of settlers made a home on Chocolate Bayou in 1857, the community grew, adding grocers, a physician, schools, and a post office. Manvel became a rich oil-producing community after the Texas Oil Company found oil in 1931. In 1975 Manvel had just 110 residents, but the population then increased to nearly 4,000 in the 1990s.
