(New Braunfels) – Meyer Ranch, developed by Crown Community Development, was recognized Thursday night with a 2026 Texas Association of Builders (TAB) STAR Award for Best Special Project – Non-Residence for the preservation and restoration of the Historic Heimer House, a landmark project that celebrates the rich history of the original landowners while creating a meaningful community gathering space for residents and visitors.
Presented during the 2026 STAR Awards Dinner & Celebration on July 23, the award recognizes the vision, dedication, and collaboration behind transforming the historic homestead into The Historic Heimer House, a destination within Meyer Ranch featuring gathering areas, seating, walking paths, and educational exhibits that tell the story of the Heimer family’s legacy and its connection to the land that is now home to the master-planned community.
The award celebrates the restoration of the Historic Heimer House, originally built in the 1800s. Through partnerships with Comal County, the Comal County Historical Commission, the Sophienburg Museum and Archives, the project preserved an important piece of local history while making it accessible to future generations. Historical records, family archives, photographs, and land ownership histories are documented throughout the site with interpretive signage that traces the property’s journey from the original Heimer family homestead to the vibrant Meyer Ranch community of today.
In late 2025, the Historic Heimer House was officially recognized by Comal County as a historic landmark, further cementing its significance to the region’s heritage.
The Texas Association of Builders STAR Awards are among the most prestigious honors in the state’s residential construction industry. Since 1992, the program has recognized excellence among builders, developers, architects, designers, marketers, and industry professionals whose work sets the standard for innovation, craftsmanship, and community building. This year’s competition drew more than 1,100 entries from across Texas.
Today, The Historic Heimer House serves as a lasting tribute to the area’s heritage and stands as a unique example of how historic preservation can enrich modern community development.
